Call Forwarding and Call Divert Codes by Country
How to divert calls when you are busy, do not answer or are unreachable, and how to cancel, in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia and Latin America.
Updated
In most countries mobile networks use the standard divert codes: **67*number# when busy, **61*number# when there is no answer, **62*number# when unreachable, **21*number# for all calls, ##002# to cancel every divert, and *#21# to check. Some operators add *11 before the # (Orange France, Telstra), some print a single *, and Japan does not use these codes at all (au uses 1424 and 1422; SoftBank and Rakuten use their apps). Landlines use their own codes, such as BT's *21*, *61* and *67*. You usually pay the diverted part of the call as an outgoing call, so divert to a number in the same country.
What changes from country to country
- The *11 ending: Orange in France and Telstra in Australia publish the codes with *11 (the voice service) before the #, for example **61*number*11#.
- Single or double star: some operators print *61*number#, others **61*number#. Both usually work on mobiles.
- The no-answer delay: most networks accept 5 to 30 seconds, written **61*number**20# or with *11 or *10 before the seconds; some landlines fix it (BT 15 seconds, Sunrise and Swisscom 25 seconds).
- Japan: no GSM codes. au uses 1424 (all calls), 1422 (no answer or busy) and 1420 (off); docomo uses 1429 and 1420 after you apply; SoftBank and Rakuten set forwarding in their apps.
- Prepaid lines are often limited: Vodafone UK Pay as you go and Orange Romania PrePay divert to voicemail only, One NZ Prepay cannot divert, and TIM in Brazil offers it on postpaid lines only.
- Some operators sell call forwarding as an option (Maxis, Proximus landlines, Telmex Sígueme) or set it up through customer service (U Mobile).
Divert to a local number
You pay the diverted part of the call as an outgoing call, and many operators refuse foreign numbers (One NZ, U Mobile, Rakuten, NTT, KPN landlines; POST in Luxembourg allows only Benelux, France and Germany). Give your UIRIX agent a number in your own country: in the US, Canada, Israel and Puerto Rico it is ready at once, and in 23 more countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Mexico, the telephony provider first reviews your details and documents, usually in 1 to 3 business days.
What happens when the call reaches your AI receptionist
- Your agent answers in your business's name, day and night, in 17 languages: it answers from your website and documents, takes messages and leads, books appointments where you connect a calendar, and can put the caller through to a person you choose.
- When your carrier marks the call as forwarded, the agent knows it came through your line: it never reads your business number back as the caller's own, and it asks for a callback number when it needs one.
- Calls are recorded (on by default), transcribed and summarized in your dashboard, and you can get the summary by e-mail.
- If the agent transfers callers to a person, use a number that does not forward back to the agent (a mobile or a direct line), so a call cannot loop between the two.

Divert your missed calls to an AI receptionist
- 1
Get a local number for your agent
Create your UIRIX agent and request a number in your country in the dashboard; where documents are needed, the dashboard tells you which.
- 2
Turn on the diverts
Dial your operator's busy, no-answer and unreachable codes with the agent's number, or set them in your operator's app.
- 3
Call yourself while busy
From a second phone, call your business number while your phone is on another call (or you decline the call). Your agent should answer.
- 4
Call yourself and do not answer
Let it ring. After the delay you set, your agent should answer. If voicemail answers instead, voicemail is still catching the call first.
