AT&T Call Forwarding: Busy, No Answer, Unreachable and Off

The AT&T codes to send the calls you miss to another number, such as your AI receptionist, for AT&T wireless phones, AT&T Phone digital lines and traditional business lines.

Updated

On an AT&T wireless phone, conditional call forwarding uses the standard GSM codes: *67*number# forwards calls when you are busy, *61*number# when you do not answer, and *62*number# when your phone is off or out of signal. ##67#, ##61# and ##62# turn each one off. To forward all calls, use your phone's Call forwarding setting. AT&T lets you change forwarding only from the phone itself, forwards only to US numbers, and bills each forwarded call for its length. AT&T Phone digital lines use *90 (busy), *92 (no answer) and *72 (all calls), each followed by the number and #.

What AT&T says about wireless call forwarding

  • For your security, you can change call forwarding only from your wireless phone, not online.
  • Forwarded calls are billed for the length of the call, and long-distance or roaming charges can apply; on some plans forwarding minutes do not count against your included minutes.
  • You cannot forward calls to an international number.
  • Call forwarding overrides your AT&T voicemail.
  • If the number you forward to is busy, callers hear a busy signal.

AT&T Phone and AT&T Phone for Business (digital lines)

AT&T Phone, AT&T Phone - Advanced and AT&T Phone for Business use these codes, each followed by the number and #. You can also set them online: AT&T account > AT&T Phone for Business > Manage my plan > Phone Features > Call Forwarding.

*72 + number + # all calls *73# off
*90 + number + # when busy *91# off
*92 + number + # on no answer *93# off
*372 + number + # when service is down *373# off (Safe Call Forwarding)

Traditional AT&T business and home lines

  • All calls: dial *72 (or 72#) and the number. AT&T then calls that number, and forwarding turns on only when it answers (your AI receptionist answers, which completes the setup). Turn it off with *73 (or 73#).
  • Busy and no-answer forwarding are not set with a code on these lines: call AT&T at 800.288.2020 to turn them on or off.
  • Number of rings before a no-answer forward: dial *47, then 12 (2 rings), 18 (3), 24 (4), 30 (5) and so on up to 60 (10 rings).
  • Additional local and long-distance charges may apply to forwarded calls.

Cricket Wireless

Cricket runs on AT&T's network and includes call forwarding in its current plans, but it does not publish the codes. Check with Cricket before you rely on the AT&T codes.

Forward to a local number

Forward to a number in your own country. US carriers do not forward to international numbers, and in Israel Bezeq forwards only to Israeli numbers, so your UIRIX agent's number should be local. Numbers come from 27 countries. In the US, Canada, Israel and Puerto Rico a number is ready at once; in 23 more, such as the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Mexico, the telephony provider first reviews your details and documents, usually in 1 to 3 business days.

What happens when the call reaches your AI receptionist

  • Your agent answers in your business's name, day and night, in 17 languages: it answers from your website and documents, takes messages and leads, books appointments where you connect a calendar, and can put the caller through to a person you choose.
  • When your carrier marks the call as forwarded, the agent knows it came through your line: it never reads your business number back as the caller's own, and it asks for a callback number when it needs one.
  • Calls are recorded (on by default), transcribed and summarized in your dashboard, and you can get the summary by e-mail.
  • If the agent transfers callers to a person, use a number that does not forward back to the agent (a mobile or a direct line), so a call cannot loop between the two.

Dial from your AT&T phone with the 10-digit number. The double-star form (**67*, **61*, **62*) is the GSM standard and works too; never dial *67 alone, which hides your caller ID.

Forward your missed AT&T calls to an AI receptionist

  1. 1

    Get the agent's US number

Create your UIRIX agent and give it a US phone number in the dashboard.

  2. 2

    Dial the three codes

    From your AT&T phone: *67*number#, *61*number# and *62*number#, each with the agent's 10-digit number.

  3. 3

    Call yourself while busy

From a second phone, call your business number while your phone is on another call (or you decline the call). Your agent should answer.

  4. 4

Call yourself and do not answer

Let it ring. After the delay you set, your agent should answer. If voicemail answers instead, voicemail is still catching the call first.

AT&T call forwarding: common questions

Dial *61* followed by the number and # from your AT&T phone. To turn it off, dial ##61#.

Not for wireless phones: AT&T allows changes only from the phone. AT&T Phone for Business lines can be set in your online AT&T account.
No. AT&T does not forward to international numbers, so use a US number for your AI receptionist.
