What Can an AI Phone Assistant Call About? Real Requests That Work Today

Real requests in the words people use, grouped by who gets the call: restaurants, doctors and dentists, garages, stores, contractors, landlords, hotels, vets, salons and the people in your life. Where it matters, each one says what to give your assistant first, and the table near the end shows what does not work yet.

Updated

An AI phone assistant like the UIRIX Personal AI Agent can make everyday calls that a person answers: booking, moving or canceling a table or an appointment, asking a question, collecting prices from up to three businesses on one yes, checking whether your car or order is ready, and passing on a message. You type the request in Claude or ChatGPT, for example "Call Luigi's and book a table for 4 at 7pm Saturday", and your assistant calls from its own number after your yes. It can also tell you who called and get someone on the line for you. It cannot press phone-menu keys or wait on hold yet, so banks, airlines, utilities and other big call centers are not a fit today.

Restaurants: book a table, check the wait, order takeout

Restaurants are the easiest calls, because a person usually answers. Give your assistant the restaurant (a name it already knows, or the number) and the name on the booking, and say what to do if your time is taken.

  • "Call Luigi's and book a table for 4 at 7pm Saturday. If they're full, ask what times they have." Give it: the number and the name on the booking.
  • "Can you book us a table for two tonight around 8 at Sala Thai on Main?" Give it: the number and your name.
  • "Call and move my reservation from 7 to 8:30. It's under Cohen." Give it: the restaurant and the date.
  • "Call and cancel my reservation for tomorrow, party of 6, under Miller." It asks about any cancellation fee before it cancels.
  • "Ask if they take walk-ins tonight and how long the wait is right now." Give it: the restaurant.
  • "Call Tony's Pizza and order a large pepperoni and a Caesar salad for pickup at 6:30 under Dan. I'll pay when I pick it up." Give it: the number. You pay at pickup.

Doctors, dentists and pharmacies

Booking or moving a dentist or doctor appointment works when a person answers. Many medical office lines start with a phone menu, and your assistant cannot press keys or wait on hold, so the call usually ends early and you are told. Give it the office's direct number if you have one, the patient's name, and only what the office needs, such as a date of birth or your insurance plan. Calls are recorded and transcribed by default, so leave out health details the call does not need.

  • "Book me a dentist appointment next week, any morning." Give it: the dentist, the patient's name and your insurance.
  • "Call my dentist and ask if they have any earlier cancellations." Give it: your current appointment date.
  • "Find out if Dr. Kim is taking new patients and if they take Aetna." Give it: the office number and your plan.
  • "Call Dr. Patel's office and move my Thursday appointment to sometime next week." Give it: the current time, your date of birth and the days that work.
  • "Call the dentist and ask if they're in-network with Delta Dental PPO." Give it: the office number.
  • "Call Main Street Pharmacy and ask if my refill is ready to pick up." Give it: the name and date of birth on the prescription. A pharmacy where a person answers works best.

The garage and your car

Local garages, mechanics, body shops and tire shops usually answer the phone themselves. Give your assistant the shop and the name or the car the job is under. Dealership service lines often start with a phone menu, so they work only when a person picks up.

  • "Call the garage and ask if my car is ready." Give it: the garage and the name on the job.
  • "Call these three shops and ask how much an oil change is and if they can do it today." Give it: the three numbers and your make, model and year.
  • "Get me quotes for four new tires from these three shops." Give it: the tire size or the car, and the three numbers.
  • "Call the garage, ask what the final bill is, and don't approve any extra work." It does not agree to a price you did not allow.
  • "Call the body shop and ask for a rough estimate on a rear bumper dent." It cannot send photos, so describe the damage.

Stores, deliveries and orders

Call the store, not the shipper. Shipping carriers answer with menus and hold queues, but the shop that sold you the item usually has a person who can check. For a delivery, give your assistant the order number and the name on the order.

  • "My couch order is late. Call the store, not the shipper, and find out the new delivery date." Give it: the store and the order number.
  • "Call the toy store on Main and ask if they have the LEGO Titanic and can hold one until 6." It agrees to no deposit unless you say so.
  • "Call the hardware store and ask if they have 3-inch deck screws." Give it: the store.
  • "Ask the store if I can return this without the receipt." Give it: the store, the item and the purchase date.

Home services, contractors and quotes

For quotes, one yes can cover up to three businesses for the same errand, and you see every number before anything is dialed. Give the numbers yourself, or ask Claude or ChatGPT to look them up first. Your assistant collects prices and dates; it does not agree to a price or book unless your request allows it.

  • "Call these three tile guys and ask what they'd charge to regrout my shower and how soon they could start." Give it: the three numbers and the job.
  • "Call these HVAC companies and ask what they charge for an AC tune-up." Give it: up to three numbers and your system type.
  • "Call the roofer back and ask when they can come look at the leak." It can look the roofer up if it already knows them, for example from a recent call.
  • "Call the handyman and book him Saturday morning to mount the TV." Give it: the number and your address.
  • "Call my plumber's office and ask why I was billed twice for the same visit." Give it: the invoice number.

Your landlord or building

Landlords, supers and leasing offices are usually a person or a small office. If your assistant reaches voicemail, it is instructed to leave one short message: who it is, who it is calling for, why, and the number to call back.

  • "Call my landlord and tell them the heat's been out since Monday." Give it: your unit number.
  • "Ask the leasing office if I can go month to month and what it costs." It asks only; it does not agree to anything you did not allow.
  • "Call my old landlord and ask when my security deposit will be mailed." Give it: your move-out date.
  • "Call the apartments on Elm and ask if they have a 2-bedroom for November and the rent." One yes covers up to three of them.

Hotels, rental cars and travel

Call the hotel itself or the local rental branch, not a central reservations line, which often starts with a menu. Airlines are not a fit yet: their lines are menus and long holds.

  • "Call the hotel and ask for a late checkout tomorrow." Give it: the hotel's own number and the name on the booking.
  • "Call the hotel and ask if they have a crib and if parking is free." Give it: your dates.
  • "Call the rental car place and tell them I'll be 2 hours late for pickup." Give it: the branch number and the name on the reservation.
  • "Call the hotel and ask them to hold my room. I'll arrive after midnight." Give it: the name on the booking.

Pets and vets

Vets, groomers and boarding places are local and usually pick up. For a pet emergency, call your emergency vet yourself, right away.

  • "Call the vet and book my dog's shots for next week." Give it: your pet's name and the days that work.
  • "Call these groomers and ask the price for a full groom for a doodle." Give it: up to three numbers and your dog's size.
  • "Ask the boarding place if they have room for Max Thanksgiving week." It agrees to no deposit unless you say so.
  • "Ask the vet if Luna's prescription food is ready to pick up." Give it: the vet and your pet's name.

Salons, barbers, spas and gyms

Salons, barbers, spas and gyms are a good fit, especially the ones that only book by phone. Put your limits in the request: a time window, a stylist, a price ceiling, or whether a deposit is OK.

  • "Book me a haircut for next Tuesday afternoon." Give it: the salon, if it does not know it yet.
  • "My barber only takes bookings by phone. Call and get me in Saturday morning." Give it: the barber's number.
  • "My sister's wedding is the 25th. I need a cut and color the week before, ideally Wednesday or Thursday evening, with Jess if she's free. Don't book anything over $250." Give it: the salon.
  • "Call the gym and ask if they have a free trial day and what the monthly rate is." It asks only; it does not sign you up.

Lost items and opening hours

Quick questions make good short calls. For a lost item, say roughly when you were there and what it looks like.

  • "Call Rosa's Cantina and ask if anyone turned in a black jacket last night. We were in the corner booth around 9."
  • "Call the hardware store and ask if they're open on Thanksgiving and until what time."
  • "Call the HOA office and ask when the pool reopens."

Reaching a person and connecting you

Your assistant can call people too. Use it for people who know your assistant may call them. To get someone on the line, it calls them, introduces itself as your assistant, checks it reached the right person and asks if it may put them through. On their yes, your phone rings for about 25 seconds; answer and you are connected. It connects only the person you named, not a front desk, a voicemail or a phone menu.

  • "Call my mom and tell her I'm running 15 minutes late."
  • "Call Sarah and ask if she's still coming to dinner Friday."
  • "Get my brother Danny on the line." Give it: Danny's number, if it does not know him yet.
  • "Call my mom's home aide Rosa and tell her in Spanish that Mom's appointment moved to 2pm." It can make the call in any of its 17 languages.

Who called me and what they wanted

When someone calls your assistant's number, it introduces itself as your assistant, asks who is calling and why, takes a message, and puts through only the people you chose. It turns sales calls away politely. It also answers the calls you forward to it from your mobile when you are busy, and when your carrier marks a call as forwarded from your phone, it takes a message instead of ringing you again. Ask Claude or ChatGPT about calls from the last 30 days.

  • "Who called me today?"
  • "That number called 3 times this morning. Who was it and what did they want?"
  • "Any calls I need to return? Make me a list with what each one wanted."
  • "If my kid's school calls, put them through. Everyone else, take a message." Give it: the school's number.

Ask in the chat, no call needed

These requests do not place a call. They change what your assistant knows or tell you what happened. It is instructed to save only what you tell it, and only after you agree, and your profile refuses passwords, verification codes and full card or bank account numbers.

  • "Remember my dentist is Dr. Kim at Smile Dental, 555-0142."
  • "My car's a 2019 Camry. Save it for when you call the garage."
  • "Forget my ex's number."
  • "How did the call to the garage go?"
  • "Get to know me so you can make calls for me." It asks one question at a time.
How the Claude and ChatGPT connector works →

How to ask so the call goes well

Before it calls, your chat app is instructed to repeat the number, the task and the timing and to get your yes, and the UIRIX connector refuses a call that is not marked as approved. A clear request gets a short call and a useful answer:

  • Name the place. Say "my dentist" and it looks among the people and businesses it already knows. For a new place, give the number or ask your chat app to look it up; you see the number before it calls.
  • Say whose name the booking or order is under, and add only the details the call needs, such as an order number, or a date of birth for a doctor's office.
  • Set your limits: a time window, a price ceiling ("nothing over $250"), whether a deposit is OK, or "don't approve any extra work". It does not agree to a price, a deposit or a purchase unless your request allows it.
  • Say what to do if your first choice is taken, such as "if they're full, ask what times they have". To choose before anything is booked, ask it to collect the options first and book in a second call.
  • Say when. A call goes out right away unless you give a time or a window of hours, and a window follows the local time of the number being called. With a window, it can try again if nobody answers or the line is busy: up to three calls in all, at least 30 minutes apart.
  • Compare up to three places on one yes. One yes can cover up to three businesses for the same errand, with every number shown to you first.
  • Keep secrets out. Never put passwords, PINs or card numbers in a request; a customer or order number is enough.

Start asking in four steps

  1. 1

    Create your personal agent

In the UIRIX dashboard choose Create agent, then Personal AI Agent. It needs no website and is ready in seconds.

  2. 2

    Get it a phone number

On the agent page choose Get Number. A number needs a saved payment card, and any monthly price is shown before you confirm.

  3. 3

    Connect Claude or ChatGPT

Add the UIRIX connector with the server URL https://dashboard.uirix.com/api/ext/v1/mcp and sign in. In Claude: Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector. In ChatGPT on the web: chatgpt.com/plugins, then +, then Add custom MCP server. On the permission screen, switch on Outbound calls; it is off by default.

  4. 4

    Type your request

Use your own words or a request from this page. Your chat app repeats the number, the task and the timing and asks for your yes. When it calls a business for you, it says it is your AI assistant calling on your behalf. Stay in the same chat to see how it went.

What to ask an AI phone assistant: common questions

As of October 2026, ChatGPT does not place phone calls by itself, though it can book tables at restaurants listed on OpenTable, Resy or Yelp. Add UIRIX in ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com/plugins, then +, then Add custom MCP server; whether you can add one depends on your ChatGPT plan), sign in and switch on Outbound calls. Then type requests like "Call the garage and ask if my car is ready". ChatGPT repeats the number, the task and the timing, and your personal agent calls from its own number after your yes. Restaurants, offices, shops and people where a person answers work best.
The same requests. As of October 2026, Claude does not make phone calls by itself, so add the UIRIX connector: in Claude open Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector and paste https://dashboard.uirix.com/api/ext/v1/mcp, or use the one-click Add UIRIX to Claude link on this page. Sign in and switch on Outbound calls. As of October 2026, Anthropic says the Claude Free plan allows one custom connector. Then ask, for example, "Book me a haircut for next Tuesday afternoon" or "Who called me today?". It works in claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code.
The place, and usually its number. Say "call my dentist" and it looks among the people and businesses it already knows; for a new business, give the number or let your chat app look it up, and you see the number before it calls. Add the name on the booking or order, your limits, such as a time window, a price ceiling or "no deposit", and what to do if your first choice is taken. Leave out passwords, PINs and card numbers.
It is not meant to. Your chat app is instructed to repeat the number, the task and the timing and to get your yes, and the UIRIX connector refuses a call that is not marked as approved. One yes can cover a quick comparison of up to three businesses for the same errand, with every number shown to you first.
Yes, for people who know your assistant may call them. Try "Call my mom and tell her I'm running 15 minutes late" or "Get my brother Danny on the line". To connect you, it calls the person, checks it reached the right person and asks if it may put them through; then your phone rings for about 25 seconds. It is not for calling a list of people.
Anything behind a phone menu or a hold queue, such as banks, cable and phone companies, utilities, airlines, insurers and government offices. Your assistant talks with people; it cannot press keys or wait on hold, and automated menus usually end the call early. It also does not pay for things, put you through to a front desk, find new businesses on its own, or make recurring calls without your yes each time. For an emergency, call 911 yourself.
When it calls a business for you, it says it is your AI assistant calling on your behalf. When it calls someone to connect you, it introduces itself as your assistant. It is instructed to say it is an AI whenever someone asks.
Each call is billed by the AI voice usage it takes, plus a short summary, from your plan's monthly amount and then your prepaid wallet. When it connects a call to your phone, your own part of the call is billed too. Pay as you go starts at $10 a month for up to 5 agents, and a phone number needs a saved payment card. Requests answered in the chat, such as "Who called me today?", do not place a call.
